Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality acute hemodialysis care for adult inpatients, ensuring safety and clinical excellence
- Monitor and interpret EKGs and patient telemetry to detect and respond to changes quickly
- Operate and troubleshoot dialysis equipment while following infection control and safety protocols
- Collaborate with nephrologists, ICU/telemetry teams, and interdisciplinary staff on individualized patient plans
- Administer and document treatments, medications, and patient responses accurately and timely
- Educate patients and families about dialysis treatments, goals of care, and post-treatment instructions
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Hawaii RN license required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
- Current BLS/HCP and ACLS required
- Two or more years of full-time Acute Hemodialysis (Acute HD) staff RN experience required
- One or more years of full-time Telemetry or ICU staff RN experience prior to Acute HD preferred
- Specialty certifications (CNN, CDN) highly desired
- Must pass EKG exam with 80% or greater during orientation
- All licenses and certifications must be valid through the duration of the contract
- Compliance requirements must be completed no later than 10 days prior to the contract start date
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong acute hemodialysis clinical skills and familiarity with dialysis machines and supplies
- EKG interpretation and telemetry monitoring
- Critical care fundamentals from telemetry/ICU settings
- Medication administration and IV/vascular access management
- Clinical documentation, care planning, and interdisciplinary communication
- Infection prevention, patient safety, and emergency response skills
- Ability to work efficiently in large medical center environments (500+ beds, Level 1 Trauma Center)
