Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, preserving dignity and independence
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting) with kindness and respect
- Take and record vital signs accurately, reporting changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Maintain clear, timely documentation of resident care and observations
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to protect residents and staff
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to promote excellent care
- Contribute to a positive environment by assisting with meal service, social engagement, and comfort measures
Qualifications
- GNA certification required (Geriatric Nursing Assistant credential)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings/immunizations
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred; GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident-centered practices
- Ability to take and document vital signs and observe clinical changes
- Familiarity with ADLs, safe transfer techniques, and mobility assistance
- Basic infection prevention and safety knowledge
- Good teamwork, time management, and documentation skills
- Comfortable interacting with older adults and supporting emotional needs
