Roles & Responsibilities

• Set up and prepare operating rooms and sterile fields for a variety of cases
• Anticipate surgeon needs by organizing and passing instruments and supplies
• Maintain strict sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols
• Perform instrument and sponge counts and document accurately
• Assist the surgical team with patient positioning and safe handling
• Ensure efficient turnover between cases to keep the schedule moving
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, nurses, and support staff to optimize patient care

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or completion of an accredited surgical technology program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• State licensure or certification if required by Illinois regulations
• Previous operating room experience preferred but new grads from accredited programs are welcome
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work calmly under pressure
• Ability to pass facility credentialing and background checks

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
• High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of sterile technique and OR aseptic practices
• Familiarity with common surgical instruments and instrument processing
• Comfortable with patient positioning, surgical draping, and perioperative safety
• Good communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment
• Basic computer skills for documentation and charting
• Ability to follow protocols and maintain meticulous records
