Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to psychiatric patients using the nursing process
• Develop, implement, and periodically update individualized interdisciplinary plans of care
• Perform thorough patient assessments and continuously evaluate patient outcomes
• Manage psychiatric emergencies and coordinate medical care for patients when needed
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to identify resources and discharge planning
• Document patient care accurately and communicate changes clearly to the team
• Support a therapeutic environment for patients ages 5 and up with psychiatric needs
• Act as a dependable team member, stepping in to provide coverage and maintain continuity of care

Qualifications

• Valid State of Maine Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Minimum 1 year of previous experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required prior to start
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training current prior to start
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to manage stress effectively and make sound decisions under pressure
• Team-player mindset with flexibility to provide coverage 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
• Previous experience in emergency psychiatric nursing strongly preferred

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or equivalent 2-year nursing degree required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Experience developing and updating individualized care plans
• Competence in interdisciplinary care coordination and patient outcome evaluation
• Proficient in patient assessment for psychiatric and co-occurring medical needs
• Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and handoff practices
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize care in emergency settings
• Flexibility and availability to support a 24/7 crisis psychiatric environment
