Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity care for adult and pediatric patients (>15 years) with complex trauma, sepsis, ARDS, stroke and post-cardiac arrest conditions
• Rapidly assess changes in patient condition and implement appropriate interventions to stabilize patients
• Titrate vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics and other critical drips safely and according to unit protocols
• Manage ventilators and troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to full ventilator support
• Interpret telemetry and EKG strips independently (no telemetry techs on unit) and respond to arrhythmias
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team (RT, physicians, techs) to coordinate care and transfers, especially as a Level 1 trauma receiving center
• Operate and monitor specialized devices and lines (arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, IABP/Impella awareness) and escalate when necessary
• Document thoroughly in EPIC and maintain compliance with unit policies and safety standards
• Participate in orientation testing and skills validation (open-book skills exam during orientation; 90% required to pass)

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state required) — License must be clear with no issues (NO license or background hits allowed)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care or trauma nursing experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (must have current cards at time of submittal)
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to verify radius eligibility)
• Must not be a current full-time/part-time/PRN employee of facilities affiliated with CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity
• Previous travel nurse experience required (will not accept first-time travelers)
• Ability to pass unit’s orientation skills exam (90% required) and meet fingernail policy (no artificial nails)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care and trauma nursing judgment and quick decision-making
• Proficiency with EPIC charting and documentation workflows
• Hands-on experience with ventilator management and troubleshooting
• Competence in titration of drips (vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics, narcotics, antiarrhythmics)
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring (Draeger monitoring familiarity helpful)
• Familiarity or willingness to learn advanced devices: IABP, Impella, CVP, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000, ICP monitoring
• Comfort with rapid transfusion protocols and hypothermia devices (Zoll Thermoguard, BellMont rapid transfuse)
