Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and blood draws accurately and compassionately to support timely patient care
• Obtain and record vital signs, height/weight, pulse oximetry and other screening measures
• Prepare patients for exams, room patients and document histories, medications and allergies
• Obtain 12-lead EKGs and assist with basic diagnostic procedures
• Administer injections and immunizations (intramuscular and intradermal) per clinic protocols
• Collect and label specimens (urine, throat, stool, capillary, vaginal, wound) and perform point-of-care testing
• Provide wound care and suture removal following provider instructions
• Perform telephone triage and follow-up phone calls to support continuity of care
• Complete insurance verification, authorization forms and other front-end office tasks as needed
• Educate patients on after-visit instructions and medication administration to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant diploma from a DAPIP-accredited program (national certifications not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of certified Medical Assistant experience, outpatient experience preferred
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC only) required and current
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Flu vaccine required with no exemptions or declinations
• Proven proficiency with venipuncture, blood draws and basic laboratory testing
• Comfortable performing immunizations, injections, TB testing, EKGs and basic wound care
• Able to commute within a 50-minute radius (locals only)

Education

• Medical Assistant Diploma (DAPIP accredited)
• High School Diploma or GED
• BLS (AHA or ARC) certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Venipuncture and blood draw techniques
• Specimen collection, labeling and basic point-of-care testing (glucose, pregnancy, strep, UA)
• 12-lead EKG acquisition and basic interpretation workflow
• Medication administration and intramuscular/intradermal injections
• Telephone triage and patient follow-up procedures
• Insurance verification and prior authorization workflows
• Basic wound care and suture removal
• Patient education and rooming workflows in outpatient primary care
