Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing to adult MICU patients, including ventilated and multisystem organ failure cases
• Monitor and respond to cardiac rhythms and telemetry, interpreting dysrhythmias and initiating appropriate interventions
• Manage ventilators and care for mechanically ventilated patients with confidence and precision
• Perform and document IV starts, medication administration, continuous IV sedation, and other acute care procedures
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as NxStage CRRT, Alaris IV pumps, GE cardiac monitors and GE ventilators
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT, social services — to create safe, patient-centered plans
• Maintain accurate EPIC documentation and ensure timely, thorough charting of patient status and interventions
• Float within the OSU organization as needed, providing skilled coverage across units while upholding quality standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state
• Minimum 2 years of Medical ICU (MICU) experience required
• EPIC experience required (proficient in documentation and charting)
• Current BCLS and ACLS certifications (AHA certifications only)
• NIHSS certification required
• Competency with ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with telemetry and strong IV start skills
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical ICU clinical judgment and management of multisystem organ dysfunction
• Ventilator management and care of mechanically ventilated patients
• Cardiac monitoring, rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management
• NxStage CRRT operation and care for renal failure patients
• Use of Alaris IV pumps, GE cardiac monitors and GE ventilators
• Continuous Glucose Monitoring and management of hyperglycemia
• Experience with externalized IV pumps (used for COVID+ patients)
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record and acute care documentation
• Strong teamwork, communication, and rapid response skills in critical scenarios
