Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide excellent progressive care for adult cardiac and vascular surgery patients on a 30-bed PCU/Stepdown unit
• Monitor telemetry continuously and interpret dysrhythmias to support timely interventions
• Manage lines and drains including arterial lines, chest tubes, central lines, PICC lines, and sheaths
• Administer therapies and blood products following protocols, including heparin and insulin protocols when applicable
• Perform proficient IV starts, phlebotomy, and peripheral line maintenance
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC to maintain continuity and quality
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams
• Support perioperative transitions by receiving patients from OR/PACU, ED, or direct admit sources

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the applicable state (must have authorization to practice)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown or progressive cardiac care experience required
• BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
• Demonstrated telemetry and cardiac monitoring experience with dysrhythmia interpretation
• Proven IV start skills and experience with arterial/central line care and blood product administration
• EPIC charting experience required
• Travel assignment experience required (this role requires travel-readiness and flexibility)
• Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring best practices
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and basic dysrhythmia management
• Postoperative cardiac patient care including CABG, valve procedures, TAVR, and vascular repairs
• Management of arterial lines, chest tubes, sheaths, PCA and wound vacs
• IV therapy, PICC/central line care, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Familiarity with insulin drips and heparin protocols (protocol-driven management)
• Non-invasive respiratory support: BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oxygen delivery, and tracheostomy care
• Strong EPIC documentation and electronic charting skills
