Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to laboring patients and newborns throughout the peripartum period
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret tracings to identify and act on abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Assist and scrub/circulate for Cesarean sections and support high-risk deliveries
• Lead newborn care and stabilization in the delivery room, including APGAR assessment and neonatal resuscitation
• Start and maintain IVs, administer medications and drips (insulin, magnesium sulfate, oxytocin), and manage infusion pumps
• Administer blood and blood products safely and monitor patients for transfusion reactions
• Conduct sterile vaginal exams, IUPC placement/calibration, and spiral electrode placement when indicated
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic and communicate clearly with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe transitions of care

Qualifications

• BLS required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
• ACLS and AWHONN certifications preferred
• Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery / Mother-Baby clinical experience
• Epic charting experience required
• Pending licenses are not accepted — active licensure required
• Willingness to float to postpartum and take scheduled weekends/on-call as needed
• Able to complete a 40-hour facility orientation

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring (external and internal) and recognition/treatment of abnormal patterns
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessment/care
• IUPC placement and calibration; spiral electrode placement
• C-section assistance: scrub and circulate roles
• Management of hemorrhage, shock, and high-risk obstetrical events
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, infusion pump/drip management, and blood administration
• Use of Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, prostaglandins, and other obstetric meds
• Postpartum care including lactation support, wound care, and couplet care
