Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled speech therapy evaluations and individualized treatment plans for veterans
• Implement interventions focused on communication, cognition, and swallowing safety
• Collaborate with nurses, PT/OT, social work, and facility staff to ensure coordinated care
• Document patient progress clearly and timely in the medical record
• Educate veterans and their families on strategies to maximize communication and swallowing function
• Participate in care planning meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Current state license or eligibility to practice as a Speech Therapist in Montana
• ASHA CCC-SLP preferred or equivalent clinical certification
• Experience working with geriatric populations or in long-term care preferred
• Strong clinical skills in dysphagia management and cognitive-communication disorders
• Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification as required by the facility
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility immunization requirements

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology preferred; related degrees considered with appropriate credentials

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in assessment tools and evidence-based therapy approaches for adults
• Skilled in dysphagia evaluation and dietary/safe-swallow recommendations
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and documentation standards
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage veterans and families
• Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary, team-based setting
