Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform timely triage and full assessments for patients of all ages in an urgent care setting
- Deliver telephone triage services with clear self-care guidance and appropriate escalation
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push and infusion) and initiate/maintain IV access
- Document assessments, interventions, patient education, and follow-up in the EMR accurately
- Coordinate referrals and track outcomes, serving as a key link between providers, case managers, and outside facilities
- Maintain infection control standards, clinic supplies, and safe working environment
- Participate in department quality improvement, team development, and special projects
- Respond professionally and calmly to emergency situations and assist as triage role requires
- Serve as vaccine coordinator or support vaccine coordination as needed
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
- Current, full, unrestricted RN license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience, with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
- Clinical competency assessment and High Risk competency to be completed within 3 months of hire (ongoing renewal as required)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take NCLEX)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing process skills with excellent assessment and prioritization
- IV initiation, infusion management, and medication administration
- Telephone triage and patient education expertise
- Proficient documentation and charting in EMR systems
- Infection control and clinic protocol knowledge
- Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and remain composed in urgent situations
- Collaborative communication with multidisciplinary teams and referral coordinators
