Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary care services to an adult patient population, including histories, physical exams, and diagnosis
• Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and COPD with evidence-based plans
• Prescribe and manage medications responsibly while monitoring for side effects and interactions
• Coordinate care and referrals, collaborating with nursing staff and specialty services when needed
• Document clinical encounters clearly and contemporaneously in the medical record
• Participate in orientation and training activities to ensure continuity of high-quality care

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Active and unrestricted California medical license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; advanced certifications (ACLS) preferred
• Experience in primary care settings; correctional or institutional healthcare experience is a plus
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school; completion of Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in chronic disease management and preventive care
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to triage and manage acute presentations in a primary care setting
• Knowledge of infection control principles and medication management
• Comfort working in structured institutional environments and following facility policy
