Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage complex neuro ICU patients with autonomy and critical thinking, including post-craniotomy and traumatic brain injury care
• Operate and monitor invasive neuromonitoring devices such as EVDs and ICP monitors, adjusting care as needed
• Provide expert ventilator management and respiratory support, including HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP and suctioning
• Administer and titrate continuous IV sedations, vasoactive and cardiac drips safely and accurately
• Perform vascular access care: start and maintain peripheral IVs, manage central lines, arterial lines, PICCs and ports
• Respond to cardiac events: obtain 12-lead EKGs, interpret dysrhythmias and initiate emergency therapies
• Administer blood products and critical/emergency medications following facility protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, social services) to deliver holistic patient care
• Perform bedside procedures and assist with tracheostomy, PEG care and other unit-specific interventions
• Participate in infection prevention practices and maintain strict isolation precautions and PPE use

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (able to practice in Ohio)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with strong Neuro/Neuro ICU experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers must complete traveler screening
• BLS and ACLS preferred; NIHSS preferred for stroke assessment
• IV therapy skills preferred (advanced vascular access experience a plus)
• Ability to safely titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips and manage continuous IV sedation
• Willingness to float to different units within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro critical care: CVA/stroke care, post-neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury management
• Invasive neuromonitoring: EVD and ICP monitoring
• Ventilator management and care of mechanically ventilated patients
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP, suctioning techniques
• Central, arterial, PICC line and port care and troubleshooting
• Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Blood product administration and emergency medication protocols
• Phlebotomy, infection prevention, isolation precautions and PPE adherence
• IV insulin protocols and endocrine/metabolic monitoring
