Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and document patient behavior and mental status to keep the care team informed
• Provide compassionate, respectful support and basic care to patients in a correctional behavioral health setting
• Use proactive de-escalation techniques to promote a safe environment for patients and staff
• Assist with therapeutic activities and daily living tasks to support patient stability and recovery
• Communicate clearly and professionally with nursing staff, clinicians, and correctional personnel
• Maintain accurate, timely records and incident reports in accordance with facility policies
• Participate in treatment team meetings and follow care plans to help achieve patient goals
• Adhere to safety protocols, infection control standards, and facility procedures at all times

Qualifications

• Current California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) — required
• Willingness and ability to complete a two-week orientation (provided)
• Ability to work the scheduled shift: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
• Eligibility for facility background checks and correctional clearance
• BLS/CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Previous experience in behavioral health or correctional settings is a plus

Education

• Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician training program or equivalent
• High school diploma or GED required; LPT license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational skills and accurate documentation
• Skilled in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
• Familiarity with basic psychiatric concepts and common psychotropic medications
• Good communication and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to follow care plans, safety protocols, and facility procedures
• Professionalism in a secure/correctional environment
