Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-risk labor and delivery care in a fast-paced, high-acuity L&D unit
• Function as the Baby Nurse during deliveries and provide continuous newborn care until transfer to postpartum
• Circulate for C-sections and assist in surgical and recovery procedures
• Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, eye prophylaxis and Vitamin K administration
• Administer and monitor medications including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips and heparin
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and manage radiant warmer/thermoregulation
• Use Epic for accurate and timely documentation; follow electronic fetal monitoring protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory, pharmacy, radiology and social services

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in compact states is valued; candidates must meet licensure requirements
• Minimum 3-5 years of Labor & Delivery experience in high-acuity, high-volume settings; 5 years high-risk preferred
• Previous travel experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
• Current BLS and NRP required; ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced preferred
• Must have supervisory references and proof of required certifications on submission
• Must pass clinical review and provide current NURSYS verification
• Comfortable floating to Postpartum/Antepartum and sister facilities as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in electronic fetal monitoring and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Neonatal care skills including resuscitation, APGAR scoring and newborn assessments
• Experience circulating for C-sections and assisting with high-risk vaginal deliveries
• Medication administration skills including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, heparin and oxytocin
• IV therapy skills including starting and maintaining IVs
• Ability to manage postpartum complications such as hemorrhage and shock
• Comfort with epidural management, forceps/vacuum extractions and sterile vaginal exams
• Proficiency with Epic charting and following AWHONN guidelines
