Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental care for patients from infants to geriatrics
• Perform clinical hygiene services including examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, and dental radiography
• Measure and record periodontal pockets and take patient vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
• Manage patient schedules and maintain efficient clinic flow
• Coordinate and conduct community prevention activities including sealant clinics and Head Start programs
• Maintain hygienist supplies, perform instrument sterilization, and uphold infection control protocols
• Document patient care accurately and collaborate with the care team to optimize outcomes

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control techniques and sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease and treatment therapies
• Proficiency with dental instruments and dental radiography/X-rays
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
• Good manual dexterity and ability to sit for extended clinical procedures
• Experience with patient education and community prevention outreach
