Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the Cardiovascular OR, ensuring patient safety from pre-op through handoff
• Assist the surgical team during cardiovascular procedures and maintain a sterile field throughout cases
• Coordinate patient care with surgeons, anesthesia, and CSTs to keep cases running smoothly
• Perform preoperative assessments and prepare patients and the OR environment for procedures
• Monitor patient status intraoperatively and respond promptly to changes or emergencies
• Document clinical care and communicate clear handoffs to post-anesthesia teams
• Mentor and collaborate with techs and perioperative staff to maintain high-quality workflow
• Adhere to unit policies, infection control standards, and hospital protocols to ensure excellent outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (cardiovascular OR specialty experience preferred)
• PeriOp 101 completion required for RNs
• Minimum 1 year perioperative/OR nursing experience (cardiovascular experience strongly preferred)
• Orthopedic and trauma experience required as noted in the hiring profile
• CSTs must be certified (for CST roles on the unit)
• Comfort working in a fast-paced OR environment with strong teamwork and communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Operating Room workflows and perioperative nursing practices
• Cardiovascular surgery procedures and CVOR fundamentals
• Sterile technique and instrumentation familiarity (CST collaboration)
• Orthopedic and trauma case exposure and handling
• Ability to work with EMR systems and accurate clinical documentation
• Strong situational awareness and the ability to prioritize in high-acuity cases
