Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care for infants through geriatrics
• Deliver patient education on oral hygiene, home care and nutrition to prevent oral disease
• Perform periodontal therapy, coronal polishing and topical fluoride applications
• Measure and document periodontal pockets and perform dental radiography (x-rays)
• Record patient vitals including pulse, blood pressure and temperature
• Manage and coordinate patient schedule to ensure smooth clinic flow
• Organize and lead prevention activities such as sealant clinics, Head Start clinics and community health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and instruments and ensure proper sterilization
• Complete other clinic duties as assigned to support team and patient care

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection control techniques and sterilization practices
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficient use of dental instruments and radiography equipment
• Clinical hygiene skills with strong manual dexterity
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Accurate clinical judgment and patient-centered care approach
• Ability to sit and work closely with patients for extended periods
