Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory therapy treatments per physician orders, including aerosol medication delivery, lung expansion, and airway clearance modalities
- Obtain arterial blood gases from the radial artery, interpret results, and recommend appropriate treatment to the care team
- Manage ventilators: initiate, maintain, monitor, assess, participate in rounds, and support liberation from mechanical ventilation
- Perform airway management and suctioning (nasal, oral, pharyngeal) and provide oxygen therapy as ordered
- Respond rapidly to emergencies with airway management, CPR, trauma care, and manual or mechanical ventilatory support
- Support and monitor patient transport within the hospital and to other facilities using portable ventilators and monitoring equipment
- Accurately document therapy provided, medications administered, and patient response in the medical record
- Train and precept employees and students, and provide clear handoffs to oncoming staff to ensure continuity of care
- Perform equipment reprocessing, maintenance checks, and required charge/record keeping
Qualifications
- Current Rhode Island (RI) respiratory care license
- CRT or RRT certification required
- Current BLS certification
- Current immunizations and health requirements per facility policy (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap, TB testing/requirements, fit test)
- Comfortable and experienced with ventilator management, ABG collection and interpretation, and emergency airway care
- Strong communication skills for patient education, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration

- Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management

- Rapid response and emergency care procedures including CPR
- Patient assessment, care planning, and education
