Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate care to adults on a mixed PCU/Oncology/MedSurg unit, managing complex oncology and trauma patients
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other critical medications following policy and chemo certification requirements
- Titrate IV drips (insulin, cardizem, heparin when applicable) and manage Alaris IV pump programming accurately
- Provide ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring care (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000) and escalate changes in condition promptly
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to maintain clear interdisciplinary communication
- Perform hourly rounding and patient experience practices to ensure safety and satisfaction
- Float to similar-level PCU or MedSurg units as needed, collaborating with CNA and support staff
- Serve as a charge/resource nurse when assigned, applying leadership and delegation skills
Qualifications
- Current RN license eligible for practice in Nebraska
- Chemotherapy certification required (Chemo Cert)
- ACLS and BLS (AHA) required on hire
- ONS/ONCC and NIHSS certifications required or preferred per unit notes
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; oncology and/or PCU experience strongly preferred
- Comfort with ventilator care and advanced hemodynamic monitoring (training available on-unit)
- Experience with EPIC preferred (within 6 months noted for orientation planning)
- Driver’s license required at time of submittal and adherence to the 50-mile radius rule (no current full/part-time/PRN employment with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity)
- Willingness to complete orientation exam (open-book skills exam during orientation; 90% passing threshold required)
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or BSN — BSN preferred but not required
- Active RN license in good standing; required certifications (ACLS, BLS, chemo cert)
Knowledge & Skills
- Chemotherapy administration and oncology nursing best practices
- IV medication titration and familiarity with common drips (insulin, cardizem, heparin)
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
- Alaris IV pump operation and troubleshooting
- Ventilator management and respiratory support skills
- Hemodynamic monitoring: CVP, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000
- Strong communication, teamwork, and patient experience focus (hourly rounding)
- Ability to work autonomously on nights while collaborating with interdisciplinary team
