Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide professional, compassionate pre-hospital and interfacility patient care for all age groups
- Assess patients rapidly and accurately, document findings, and initiate appropriate treatments
- Administer medications following the Five Patient Rights and standing orders
- Titrate drips (nitroglycerin, heparin, IV fluids, vasopressors) as indicated and per protocol
- Operate and monitor respiratory support equipment including CPAP, BiPAP and ventilators
- Supervise and support EMTs on scene and during transfers, ensuring team safety and effective care
- Coordinate patient transfers and communicate patient status during handoffs to receiving teams
- Complete timely and accurate documentation and communicate staffing needs to leadership
Qualifications
- Active Paramedic License (state) — required
- Nationally registered Paramedic (NREMT-P) — required
- Current ACLS, BLS, PALS and NRP certifications — required
- Minimum: 1 year experience providing ALS-level care (per posting)
- Intubation experience preferred (not strictly required)
- Ability to titrate drips and manage common critical care meds
- Must meet Radius Rule: reside within 50 miles and may NOT be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI/Dignity)
- RTO needed upfront; manager interview only (no clinical interview scheduled)
Education
- No BSN required; Paramedic licensure/certification and required ACLS/BLS/PALS/NRP certifications are the key credentials
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making in pre-hospital settings
- Medication administration and monitoring using the Five Patient Rights
- Skillful documentation and electronic charting (PointClickCare/PCC familiarity is a plus)
- Experience with CPAP, BiPAP, ventilators and other airway/respiratory equipment
- Comfort supervising EMTs and coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work high-acuity presentations: trauma, chest pain, respiratory distress, falls, abdominal pain
- Titration of IV drips and familiarity with vasopressors and set-rate infusions
