Roles & Responsibilities
- Apply, remove and manage casts and splints with precision and patient comfort in mind
- Perform cast saw tasks, trim, univalve and wedge casts safely
- Fit braces and immobilizers and provide gait training and crutch/cane instruction
- Assist with sterile dressing techniques, pin insertions and debridements when needed
- Remove sutures and provide wound care support under clinic protocols
- Chart thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to keep the care team informed
- Educate patients and caregivers on cast care, mobility aids, and home safety
- Collaborate with clinicians and staff across outpatient clinics to ensure smooth patient flow
Qualifications
- NBCOT (OTC) certification required — must hold active certification
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in outpatient orthopedic settings
- EPIC charting experience required or preferred (you’ll be charting here)
- Strong cast, splinting and brace/immobilizer skills; cast saw experience a plus
- Willingness to float to nearby clinics on rare occasions
- Pending state licenses are NOT accepted — must have required licensure active
- First-time travelers welcome — open to clinicians new to travel contracts
Education
- NBCOT (OTC) certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Casts/Fiberglass/Synthetic casting techniques
- Splint fabrication and fitting
- Braces and immobilizer application and adjustments
- Crutch fitting, cane instruction and gait training
- Cast saw operation and cast removal skills
- Suture removal and sterile dressing techniques
- Assist with debridements and pin insertion support
- Patient education and clear communication
- EPIC electronic charting proficiency
- Outpatient clinic workflows and patient-centered care
