Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient-centered perioperative nursing care across a variety of surgical specialties including laparoscopic, bariatrics, ortho, neuro, uro, GYN and ENT
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned—coordinating cases, staff, and patient flow to keep the suite running smoothly
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner to support clear communication and continuity
• Respond to on-call notifications within a 30-minute response window and support emergent cases when needed
• Collaborate with OR techs, anesthesia, surgeons and ancillary teams (RT, Pharmacy) to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Participate in set-up, turnover and sterile technique practices; scrub when preferred or required
• Support sterile processing workflows by communicating set and instrumentation needs and ensuring sterile integrity

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California required
• Minimum 2 years of perioperative or acute care nursing experience preferred
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• Experience with Cerner or other EMR charting systems preferred
• Comfort with on-call responsibilities including some nights and weekends
• Scrubbing experience is preferred but not required

Education

• Active RN license required; BSN not required (ADN or diploma acceptable)
• Orientation provided (floor-specific) with approximately 12 orientation hours documented

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative nursing skills and familiarity with OR workflows and case types
• Proficient with Cerner electronic medical records for accurate charting
• Knowledge of sterile processing principles and instrumentation assembly (IAHCSMM or CBSPD are relevant for sterile processing roles)
• Familiarity with Steris and Sterrad equipment used in decontamination and sterilization
• Ability to lead as a charge nurse and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
• Effective communication skills for interacting with surgeons, anesthesia and OR support staff
