Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess vascular access needs and develop safe, patient-centered plans of care
- Place peripheral IVs and ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs with precision and compassion
- Perform midline and PICC placements and provide port access as needed
- Execute central line dressing changes using strict sterile technique to reduce infection risk
- Troubleshoot IV and vascular access issues promptly and escalate appropriately
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to support continuity of care
- Educate patients and families about vascular access devices and aftercare instructions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and hospital leadership to optimize vascular access practices
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Washington (or compact license where applicable)
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, preferably with vascular access or IV therapy experience
- Strong peripheral IV and ultrasound-guided IV skills required; PICC and midline placement highly preferred
- VABC certification preferred but not required
- Comfortable charting in EPIC and working in an acute care tertiary hospital environment
- Professional, patient-focused communication and strong clinical decision-making skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in peripheral IV insertion and ultrasound-guided IV techniques
- Skill in PICC and midline placement and port access procedures
- Strong sterile technique and central line dressing change proficiency
- Vascular anatomy knowledge and infection prevention best practices
- IV troubleshooting, assessment, and device maintenance
- Proficient documentation skills in EPIC and accurate clinical reporting
- Ability to teach patients and staff, and collaborate across disciplines
