Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform timely triage and full nursing assessments for patients of all ages in the urgent care setting
• Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy
• Provide telephone triage and after-visit follow-up, offering clear self-care guidance and next-step plans
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately and promptly in the EMR
• Coordinate referrals and follow up on outcomes to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain infection control, supply levels, and safe clinic environments
• Act as a team player—supporting providers, LPNs, and clinical assistants and stepping into other nursing roles as needed
• Participate in quality improvement, staff development, and department initiatives to enhance patient care

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold active Alaska license)
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings
• Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods
• Willingness to complete required clinical competencies and high risk competencies within stated timeframes

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take the NCLEX)
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong nursing process, critical thinking, assessment, and prioritization skills
• Proficient in medication administration and IV therapy
• Skilled in documentation/charting and use of EMR systems
• Knowledgeable about infection control and clinic protocols
• Excellent patient education and customer service abilities
• Ability to multitask, remain calm in urgent situations, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
