Roles & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary health care team to deliver evidence-based labor and delivery care
• Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care for obstetric and maternity populations using sound clinical judgment
• Perform thorough clinical assessments and intervene appropriately with critical thinking and minimal supervision
• Direct, delegate, and supervise support staff to ensure continuity and quality of patient care
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and team members to promote optimal outcomes
• Document care accurately using basic computer systems and follow hospital policies and protocols
• Maintain required certifications and participate in education to uphold clinical standards (BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE)

Qualifications

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Graduate of an accredited RN program; BSN preferred
• Current AHA BLS (must certify within 3 months if newly hired)
• Current ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications (or obtain per facility policy)
• Ability to read, speak, and communicate effectively in English
• Strong empathetic listening, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
• Comfort and experience working with obstetric/maternity and age-specific populations
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and charting

Education

• Graduation from an accredited RN program (BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care in obstetric and maternity settings
• Interdisciplinary communication and care coordination
• Delegation and supervision of support staff
• Evidence-based practice and adherence to clinical guidelines
• Clinical assessment, critical thinking, and nursing judgment
• Familiarity with BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE protocols
• Effective verbal communication and empathetic patient interaction
• Basic electronic charting and documentation skills
