Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care to patients of all ages
• Conduct oral examinations, perform periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and apply topical fluoride
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and perform dental radiography as needed
• Record vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature) and maintain accurate patient records
• Manage patient scheduling and workflow to ensure efficient, compassionate care
• Coordinate and lead community prevention activities such as health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Maintain hygienist supplies and instruments, including proper sterilization and infection-control procedures
• Collaborate with the care team and perform other assigned duties to support patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (must obtain within 45 days of start)
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to sit for extended periods and demonstrated manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required); Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection control techniques and sterilization practices
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficient use of dental instruments and radiography
• Strong clinical hygiene skills and accurate clinical judgment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Comfort working with patients across the lifespan and in community clinic settings
