Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and provide high-quality postoperative orthopedic nursing care to adult patients
• Perform wound care, dressing changes, and suture/staple removal with precision
• Manage Foley catheters, NG tubes, and wound vac maintenance safely and confidently
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and progress clearly in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute patient-centered plans
• Educate patients and families on postoperative care, mobility, and discharge instructions
• Use safe patient handling equipment (lifts, Sara Stedy, hover mats) to maintain safety
• Support unit staffing needs and float to other med-surg areas when required

Qualifications

• Active NC RN license (required)
• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of clinical experience
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Orthopedic nursing experience preferred
• Hospital/med-surg experience preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR is a plus
• Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment and provide family-centered care

Knowledge & Skills

• Postoperative orthopedic patient care and pain management
• Wound care, wound vac maintenance, and dressing changes
• Foley catheter and NG tube management
• Safe patient handling and use of mechanical lifts and transfer devices
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and documentation skills
• Comfort working with common ortho equipment (CPM, bladder scanners, walkers)
