Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal) with accuracy and clinical confidence.
• Conduct stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic) to provide critical diagnostic information to cardiology teams.
• Perform other cardiac diagnostic tests including EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress tests.
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment (echocardiographs, stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors) to ensure reliable results.
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and correct charging of studies to support smooth clinical operations.
• Implement infection control and aseptic techniques, ensuring equipment disinfection and patient safety.
• Provide age-specific care for patients across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations.
• Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, offering clinical guidance and professional support.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS/ARDMS or equivalent) required.
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or minimum two years hands-on echocardiography experience.
• Preferred: cardiovascular sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based experience, including pediatric/neonatal echocardiography.
• Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with physicians and nursing staff.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques.
• Skilled with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and stress echocardiography protocols.
• Experience performing and interpreting EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing.
• Familiarity with echocardiography and cardiac stress equipment operation and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation, and billing.
• Understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and equipment disinfection.
• Comfortable providing age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric patient handling.
• Experience in precepting students and providing clinical instruction.
