Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting, making sound clinical decisions during your shift
- Provide thorough patient assessment, administer medications, and implement physician orders accurately
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring safe and effective care delivery
- Maintain complete, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and transcribe physician orders as needed
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions
- Manage inventories of medications, supplies, and equipment and report needs to leadership
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives to elevate patient care
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma)
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
- TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and meet the physical demands of emergency nursing
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and emergency response
- Medication administration and MAR management
- Infection control and isolation techniques
- Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and transcribing orders
- Care planning and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Supervision and delegation of clinical support staff
- Ability to make independent nursing judgments in emergent situations
- Familiarity with hospital and long-term care regulations and standards
