Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting, making sound clinical decisions during your shift
• Provide thorough patient assessment, administer medications, and implement physician orders accurately
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring safe and effective care delivery
• Maintain complete, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and transcribe physician orders as needed
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions
• Manage inventories of medications, supplies, and equipment and report needs to leadership
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives to elevate patient care

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma)
• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
• TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and meet the physical demands of emergency nursing
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and emergency response
• Medication administration and MAR management
• Infection control and isolation techniques
• Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and transcribing orders
• Care planning and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Supervision and delegation of clinical support staff
• Ability to make independent nursing judgments in emergent situations
• Familiarity with hospital and long-term care regulations and standards
