Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, primary day shift 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; nights assigned as needed. Schedule includes weekends with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period and requires holiday flexibility.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac telemetry and stepdown patients vigilantly to detect and act on changes quickly
• Administer and titrate cardiac drips and other critical IV medications safely and accurately
• Provide post-op care for cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients, including wound and chest tube management
• Manage epidurals and CADD/Baxter pump therapies with attention to protocols and patient comfort
• Document care thoroughly in Cerner and communicate clear handoffs to the care team
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Respond to emergencies and escalate care when necessary while maintaining calm and leadership

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice or compact license eligible
• ACLS and BLS required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in telemetry / stepdown or progressive care nursing
• Experience with cardiac medication titration and cardiac monitoring
• Comfortable with chest tube and epidural management and post-op cardiac/vascular patient care
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred
• Experience with IV and infusion pumps (Baxter, CADD) preferred
• Ability to work 1:5 patient ratios and function well in a fast-paced team environment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Stepdown/progressive care best practices
• Cardiac drip and gtt management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, milrinone, etc.)
• Chest tube and epidural management techniques
• IV pump operation (Baxter, CADD) and safe medication administration
• Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and emergency response skills
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Patient and family education with empathy and clarity
