Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess neuro and PCU patients, using NIH stroke scale and neuro checks to detect changes early
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document accurately in Cerner
• Perform nursing procedures including IV starts and Foley insertions with skill and compassion
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• Respond to emergent events using ACLS protocols and prioritized critical thinking
• Maintain clear, timely charting and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Provide patient and family education with empathy and professionalism

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for North Carolina
• ACLS and NIH certification (required)
• Minimum 2+ years of RN experience (PCU/Med-Surg or Neuro preferred)
• Demonstrated comfort with IV starts and Foley insertion
• Experience using Cerner or similar EMR for charting
• Outgoing, self-motivated attitude with strong teamwork and communication skills
• Willingness to work nights and every other weekend

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in neuro assessments and the NIH stroke scale
• ACLS competency for cardiac and emergency situations
• Med-Surg and PCU patient management skills
• IV insertion and urinary catheter (Foley) procedures
• Experience with Cerner EMR documentation
• Ability to manage patient ratios typical to PCU (e.g., 5:1 day, 6-7:1 stretch)
• Strong clinical judgment and effective interdisciplinary communication
