Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough, age-appropriate nursing assessments to establish immediate priorities for care
- Carry out ongoing reassessments and update care plans to reflect patient status
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on physician orders and patient needs
- Administer medications safely using med verification and evaluate patient responses
- Document patient care accurately and timely in accordance with hospital policies
- Coordinate and communicate patient status and plan changes to the multidisciplinary team
- Conduct discharge assessments and ensure patients and families understand follow-up plans
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas to improve processes
- Assist in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and respond effectively during events
- Maintain a safe, well-stocked environment and report equipment or safety concerns promptly
Qualifications
- Current Maine Registered Nurse license or compact license
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Immunizations required: Varicella (2 doses or titer), Hep B (3 doses or titer or declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, PPD (2-step or titer within past 12 months); flu shot required during flu season
- Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, lift up to 30 lbs, push/pull stretchers and wheelchairs
- Comfort assessing and caring for patients across all age groups
- Current, unexpired credentials and ability to complete agency onboarding paperwork
Knowledge & Skills
- Nursing assessment and ongoing patient reassessment
- Care planning and implementation
- Medication administration and med verification (five rights)
- Discharge planning and patient/family education
- Accurate clinical documentation and charting
- Critical thinking and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
- Quality improvement principles and participation in departmental initiatives
- Emergency and disaster preparedness procedures
