Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled therapeutic interventions under the direction of a physical therapist to help patients regain mobility and function
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care and educate patients and families on home exercise programs
- Document patient progress accurately and timely in the medical record
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update individualized care plans
- Assist with therapeutic modalities, transfers, gait training, and adaptive equipment as appropriate
- Monitor patient response and report changes to the supervising physical therapist promptly
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current/state-appropriate PTA license or eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in rehabilitation, outpatient, or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Strong communication, documentation, and patient education skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team
Education
- Associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (or equivalent) from an accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and therapeutic exercise principles
- Experience with gait training, transfers, and use of assistive devices
- Skilled in patient assessment, progress monitoring, and care documentation
- Familiarity with safety protocols, infection control, and patient handling
- Good clinical judgment, time management, and teamwork abilities
