Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room with sterile instruments and supplies to ensure smooth procedures
• Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during surgery
• Maintain strict sterile technique and infection control for patient safety
• Perform equipment checks and troubleshoot basic issues before cases
• Help with room turnover to maximize room efficiency and support case flow
• Document perioperative care and communicate clearly with nursing and surgeons

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or surgical tech certificate from an accredited program
• Current basic life support (BLS) required or willingness to obtain
• Proven experience in the operating room or strong clinical internship experience
• Comfort working in a fast-paced perioperative environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Strong attention to sterile technique, patient safety, and detail
• Valid state licensure/certification as required by Pennsylvania

Education

• Surgical Technologist certificate or diploma from an accredited program
• Associate degree in a related field is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of sterile processing and OR instrumentation
• Familiarity with surgical case workflow and perioperative protocols
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and manage instrument passing efficiently
• Good communication and teamwork skills in high-pressure settings
• Basic troubleshooting of OR equipment and familiarity with sterilization standards
