Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns
• Continuously assess and monitor maternal and fetal status to ensure safe, timely interventions
• Collaborate closely with obstetrics, anesthesia and neonatal teams to deliver coordinated care
• Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery and immediate postpartum
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and patient outcomes in the medical record
• Participate in unit safety, quality improvement initiatives and emergency obstetric responses

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligible for state licensure
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and fetal monitoring certification preferred
• Previous Labor & Delivery experience preferred — you know the rhythm of the unit
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and effective communication skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and function well in a fast-paced team environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in labor and delivery care and fetal monitoring interpretation
• Familiarity with neonatal resuscitation principles and coordination with NICU teams
• Proficient in electronic medical record documentation and accurate charting
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient education abilities
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in obstetric emergencies
