Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in a correctional setting
• Manage medication regimens, monitor effectiveness and side effects, and adjust treatment plans
• Deliver crisis assessment and timely intervention when urgent behavioral health needs arise
• Document care thoroughly and accurately in the patient record system
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — nursing, custody, social work — to coordinate patient care
• Participate in training and orientation during the initial week to learn site-specific workflows

Qualifications

• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry (friendly but focused — bring your expertise!)
• Active medical license in California or eligibility to obtain one quickly
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA licensure as required for prescribing
• Experience in psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and crisis intervention
• Cerner EMR experience is a plus but not required — training provided
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment is highly desired

Education

• MD or DO with completed Psychiatry residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment and diagnostic skills across acute and chronic psychiatric conditions
• Solid medication management knowledge, including psychotropics and side-effect monitoring
• Comfortable with electronic medical records; Cerner experience a plus
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
• Ability to work calmly and decisively in crisis situations
