Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to PCU/stepdown patients — including cardiac and stroke patients
• Monitor telemetry and interpret rhythms to detect and respond to patient changes
• Titrate IV drips safely (heparin, octreotide, insulin and other maintenance IV meds) per protocol
• Document all care accurately in EPIC and communicate effectively with the care team
• Participate in admissions, transfers and discharges in a busy, high-flow environment
• Use specialty equipment (code carts, LUCAS machines, lifts) and respond to emergent events
• Collaborate with charge nurses, PCTs and unit staff to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios
• Float to Med/Surg, ICU or ED when appropriate and provide flexible coverage as needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in Nebraska)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (telemetry/PCU/stepdown or med/surg preferred)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (must be current at time of submission)
• Proven ability to read/interpret telemetry and titrate IV drips safely
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm distance for 50-mile radius rule)
• Must pass orientation open-book skills exam with a 90% score (pass/fail)
• Not eligible if currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities
• Adherence to fingernail policy (no artificial nails) for patient-care areas

Education

• Active RN license required
• BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV drip titration and management of common drips (heparin, insulin, octreotide)
• Experience with stroke assessments (NIHSS) and cardiac/stroke patient care
• Familiarity with code response and use of code carts and LUCAS devices
• Safe patient handling using hoyer lifts and Sit and Stand equipment
• Strong communication and teamwork in fast-paced, admission-heavy units
