Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the psychiatric unit operations collaboratively with the Director, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning and high-quality patient care
• Oversee admissions and discharges to guarantee appropriate clinical management and discharge planning
• Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement activities and assemble clinical and regulatory reports for OMH, NYSDOH, DOHMH, and ACS
• Ensure regulatory compliance with NYSDOH, JCAHO and other agencies and lead readiness for surveys
• Provide operational leadership and administrative coverage for the Nursing Department as needed, including budgeting and supply oversight
• Promote and implement best practices in behavioral health care and foster continuing professional growth among staff
• Monitor clinical competencies and patient care areas to maintain high standards and compassionate service

Qualifications

• Current license and registration as a Professional Nurse in New York State
• Minimum five (5) years experience as a Registered Nurse
• Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in psychiatry and experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital (must have)
• Minimum two (2) years in a leadership role
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS required
• Crisis Management training (PMCS, TRUST) required
• Experience working with children ages six weeks to six years, with at least two (2) years of formal experience

Education

• BSN from an accredited nursing school (required)
• Master's Degree in Nursing (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong leadership, budgetary and administrative skills
• Quality improvement knowledge including CQI methods and Root Cause Analysis
• Familiarity with NYSDOH, JCAHO, OMH compliance and regulatory trends
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates respect and professionalism
• Critical thinking, solid math skills, and comfort with computers and electronic health/billing systems
• Ability to collect and prepare clinical and statistical reports
• Decision-making and problem-solving in fast-paced clinical settings
• Ability to use BHMC electronic record systems and related healthcare/billing platforms
