Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care for individuals in a mental health setting
• Take and document vital signs, basic assessments, and changes in patient status
• Assist licensed clinicians with exams, procedures, and treatment plans
• Accurately maintain patient records and enter data into the electronic health system
• Support unit safety by following correctional facility protocols and infection control standards
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the care team to coordinate care
• Help triage and escalate urgent concerns to the appropriate mental health provider

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required
• Current BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain quickly)
• Experience or comfort working in a mental health or correctional health environment preferred
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
• Available to start within three weeks from offer

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an accredited MA or CNA program required

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with mental health workflows and patient-centered communication
• Proficient with vital signs, basic clinical assessments, and documentation
• Knowledge of infection control, safety protocols, and confidentiality (HIPAA)
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and following security procedures
• Basic EHR/data entry skills and accurate charting
• De-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches
