Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on patient care in the Mental Health department
• Take and record vital signs, assist with basic clinical procedures, and observe patient status
• Support providers by preparing patients, collecting information, and ensuring accurate documentation
• Collaborate with the mental health team to implement care plans and follow treatment directives
• Maintain timely and accurate electronic and paper records in accordance with facility policy
• Follow infection control, safety, and security procedures appropriate to the facility
• Communicate clearly with patients, providers, and team members to ensure continuity of care
• Contribute to efficient clinic flow and help create a calm, therapeutic environment

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant certification or active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required
• Experience or comfort working in a mental health or behavioral health setting preferred
• Ability to start within 3 weeks, as this role is needed promptly
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred if available
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow structured protocols
• Willingness to work in a correctional facility environment (High Desert State Prison)

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Medical Assistant certification or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid skills in patient assessment and taking vital signs
• Familiarity with mental health observation and de-escalation techniques
• Comfortable with clinical documentation and basic electronic health record tasks
• Knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
• Ability to follow provider orders and support treatment plans
• Strong teamwork, time management, and organizational skills
• Good verbal communication and patient rapport-building abilities
• Attention to detail and a focus on patient safety
