Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on patient care and support in the mental health department, always prioritizing safety and dignity
• Assist clinicians with assessments, vital signs, and routine clinical tasks to support effective treatment
• Prepare examination rooms, manage supplies, and ensure a clean, organized clinical area
• Document patient interactions, observations, and procedures accurately and timely in clinical records
• Communicate compassionately and clearly with patients and the care team to facilitate coordinated care
• Follow facility protocols and safety procedures specific to correctional healthcare environments

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant certification or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential
• Experience or strong interest in mental health care; prior work in behavioral health is a plus
• Ability to work in a correctional facility setting and follow facility-specific policies
• Must be able to start within three weeks of offer
• Current BLS or willingness to obtain if required by facility
• Willingness to complete required screenings and facility onboarding (background checks, immunizations, etc.)

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or CNA certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Comfortable taking vital signs, assisting with basic clinical procedures, and supporting mental health clinicians
• Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and de-escalation skills for working with diverse patient populations
• Ability to follow strict protocols and maintain patient confidentiality
• Team-oriented mindset with adaptability to a secure/correctional clinical environment
