Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the mental health care team by preparing patients for provider visits and supporting clinical workflows
• Obtain and record vital signs and clinical observations accurately to inform treatment
• Document patient encounters and maintain clear, timely records in the chart
• Support safe, therapeutic interactions with patients in a correctional mental health setting
• Coordinate with providers, nurses, and security staff to ensure smooth clinic operations
• Help manage clinical supplies and infection control practices to maintain a safe environment
• Communicate effectively with patients and the care team to escalate concerns and follow provider instructions

Qualifications

• Current Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant certification (MA or CNA)
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility setting, specifically High Desert State Prison
• Able to start within 3 weeks of assignment (per client requirement)
• Experience or interest in mental health care preferred
• Current CPR/BLS preferred where applicable
• Ability to pass facility-specific background checks and credentialing

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; MA or CNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical skills including vital signs, basic patient assessment, and clinical documentation
• Familiarity with mental health patient needs and therapeutic communication
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow provider instructions
• Ability to work within security protocols and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Reliable time management and organizational skills for a busy clinic environment
• Compassionate patient interaction while maintaining professional boundaries
