Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and maintain complete patient charts
• Perform specimen collection, labeling, transport and Point of Care Testing (POCT)
• Prepare patients for exams, procedures and assist providers during treatments and minor surgeries
• Administer immunizations and injections as ordered and help identify patients overdue for preventative care
• Operate basic medical equipment including EKG machines, cardiac monitors and manual defibrillators as trained
• Support clinic flow by smoothly managing patient care duties and providing cross-coverage when needed
• Observe patients and report changes in condition, incidents or safety concerns promptly
• Participate in staff meetings, apply learnings to practice, and engage in unit goal setting

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required
• Current Alaska Certification OR Alaska Paramedic Certification OR Nursing degree from an accredited institution may satisfy certification requirement
• Experience in a healthcare or clinic setting preferred
• Proven ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service
• Competency with EMR systems and basic computer applications

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Nursing degree from an accredited institution accepted as alternate qualification

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient charting and accurate EMR documentation
• Specimen collection, labeling and transport protocols
• Point of Care Testing (POCT) and immunizations/injections
• Taking and interpreting age-appropriate vital signs
• Familiarity with EKG, cardiac monitoring and basic life support procedures
• Understanding of clinic procedures and workflow to maintain efficient patient flow
• Strong organizational skills, ability to train others and cross-cover peers
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills to work within a multidisciplinary team
