Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery by performing pre-operative assessments and vital sign checks
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Educate families with clear, compassionate pre-op instructions and emotional support
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition and escalate concerns promptly
• Adhere to infection control and safety protocols tailored to pediatric patients
• Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain best practices

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Washington state
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric pre-operative nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) highly desirable
• Comfortable performing assessments, venipuncture support, and working with families
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation prior to independent shifts

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Completion of required state licensure (RN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of pre-operative assessment and pediatric vital sign norms
• Familiarity with perioperative safety practices and infection control
• Skilled at patient- and family-centered education and emotional support
• Strong documentation and clinical prioritization skills
• Team-oriented approach and adaptability in a dynamic surgical setting
