Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-op assessments and thorough post-op evaluations to ensure safe patient transitions
• Monitor patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU, using clinical judgment to detect and respond to changes
• Administer and titrate medications, including monitored sedation and reversal agents, following protocols
• Obtain and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG and relevant lab values to inform timely interventions
• Provide clear discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and follow-up education to patients and families
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary partners to coordinate care and safe discharges
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the charting system (Epic preferred)
• Support pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients across a range of outpatient surgical cases

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California or eligible for CA licensure (pending license accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of PACU or perioperative nursing experience
• Comfortable managing Phase I PACU and Phase II recovery patients
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS and PALS preferred
• Experience with conscious sedation, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and post-op pain management
• Familiarity with medication reconciliation, EKG acquisition, and post-op discharge processes
• Willingness to float to Main PACU as needed and adapt to occasional shift variations
• First-time travel nurse friendly

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — California (or eligible/pending)

Knowledge & Skills

• Pre/Post-Op care and assessment skills
• Phase I and Phase II PACU workflow and priorities
• Conscious sedation monitoring and procedural sedation protocols
• Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), general anesthesia recovery, and nerve block awareness
• Medication reconciliation and management of opioid analgesics and reversal agents
• Ability to obtain and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Familiarity with Epic or similar electronic charting systems
• Clinical skills in pain assessment (including RASS), isolation precautions, and malignant hyperthermia protocols
