Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (typical daytime schedule; not strict shift — some days may run longer); Rotating coverage including evenings, nights and weekend surgeries; 24-hour on-call pager coverage; 1:4 weekend call and call every 6th night and every 6th weekend

Candidate Pay Rate: $196 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough pre-operative and post-operative patient evaluations and treatments
- Serve as OR first assist for coronary artery bypass, valve procedures and aortic reconstructions
- Support robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries, VATS and minimally invasive valve procedures
- Manage ICU and step-down unit patients including daily rounds and discharge planning
- Respond to emergent floor procedures such as chest tube insertions and arterial line placement
- Provide weekend patient rounds and coverage for evening, night and weekend surgeries
- Carry 24-hour pager coverage as scheduled and participate in clinic wound checks and walk-in/urgent visits
- Collaborate with attending surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) — ability to obtain or hold Washington state privileges and complete credentialing paperwork within required timelines
- Demonstrated experience as a cardiothoracic surgery APP or equivalent OR first-assist experience
- Comfort managing postoperative cardiac and thoracic inpatients and ICU/step-down care
- Experience with EPIC or similar EMR for documentation and order entry
- Familiarity with robotic-assisted thoracic procedures (DaVinci) strongly preferred given case mix
- Ability to carry and respond to a 24-hour pager and participate in rotating weekend/night coverage
- Willingness to complete credentialing application within 10 days of kick-off (credentialing timeframe ~90 days)
Education
- Nurse Practitioner certification/degree (NP) appropriate to clinical practice and state licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Pre- and post-operative evaluation and perioperative patient management
- OR first assist techniques for CABG, valve surgery and aortic procedures
- Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery and VATS workflow and perioperative needs
- Endoscopic vein harvest and open radial artery harvest familiarity
- ICU and step-down patient management, including ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring basics
- Procedural skills: chest tube insertion, arterial line placement and emergent floor procedures
- On-call and pager management with triage and escalation judgment
- Proficiency with EPIC documentation and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
