Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Support safe patient transfers and positioning with proper body mechanics
- Take and record vital signs, reporting any changes to the nursing team promptly
- Assist with meal service and observe dietary needs and intake
- Document care accurately and timely in patient records to ensure continuity
- Build trusting relationships with residents and their families through clear communication
- Maintain a clean, safe, and dignified environment for residents at all times
- Uphold infection control practices and facility policies to protect residents and staff
Qualifications
- Active GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification or completion of an accredited GNA program
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Comfortable assisting older adults and supporting mobility and daily care needs
- Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatrics is a plus but not always required
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an accredited GNA program or state-recognized GNA certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic clinical procedures and vital sign measurement
- Understanding of infection prevention and resident safety practices
- Familiarity with documentation and basic charting expectations
- Good observational skills to notice changes in resident condition
- Teamwork mindset and ability to follow care plans and instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with residents and families
