Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, grooming—with dignity and compassion
- Support feeding, mobility, and toileting needs while promoting independence
- Take and record vital signs accurately and report changes to nursing staff
- Maintain accurate resident documentation and communicate care updates on shift handoff
- Observe residents for changes in condition and escalate concerns promptly
- Help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents and visitors
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications
- Class: GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required (verify with facility)
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings (TB, immunizations)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for resident-centered care
- Previous long-term care or geriatric experience is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA/CNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care practices and resident safety
- Comfortable assisting with mobility and transfers using safe body mechanics
- Basic charting and chart-reading skills
- Infection control and hygiene best practices
- Compassionate bedside manner and patient advocacy
- Team collaboration and time management during busy shifts
