Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, treating each person with dignity
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition, including vital signs and behavior changes
- Document care accurately and timely in resident records to ensure continuity of care
- Support mobility and fall prevention efforts through safe transfer and ambulation assistance
- Communicate effectively with nurses, families, and the care team to coordinate resident needs
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents
- Participate in care planning and team meetings to improve resident outcomes
Qualifications
- GNA certification (required) — you know your way around geriatric care
- Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required depending on facility policy)
- Ability to pass background checks, TB screening, and required immunizations
- Comfortable assisting with personal care and mobility for older adults
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or working with geriatric populations is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- GNA certification or equivalent state credential
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Basic skills in taking and recording vital signs and observing resident status
- Infection control practices and safe body mechanics
- Good documentation habits and attention to detail
- Teamwork, patience, and the ability to build rapport with residents and families
